I stopped at one of the many produce stands that I pass on my walk from Gillys house to the Thomas Gall School. The walk takes about 25minutes and every time that I pass this woman's stand she smiles a most authentic smile, and bids me "aayu bowan". Plus, she's the only stand that sells beets! When I stopped today she was very patient and supportive as I practiced my Sinhalese and she even wrote me up a little receipt so that I'd know how much each thing cost. Less than 3 dollars for a large papaya, a ginormous beet, 4 carrots, 4 tomatoes and a huge handful of string beans. I'm going to make dinner tonight: grilled fish and my crunchy Asian salad. Boom.
