GARUDASANA
[guh-rood-AAH-suh-nuh]
Garuda means Eagle and in Hindu mythology Garuda is the destroyer of obstacles and the carrier of Vishnu. In Tibetan tradition, the garuda is said to be a magical bird that has the ability to fly without ever needing to land. Though flying endlessly, they never tire because they have learned how to ride the wind. It's symbolic of our bodies and our yoga practice - riding our breath in and out of postures even as our body tires!
Benefits of Garudasana:
- helps develop focus and concentration
- provides a deep stretch in the hips, along the posterior shoulders, and between the shoulder blades
- strengthens the calves
