Beasts of the Southern Wild

Because I spend most of my year out of the country and away from a TV, and then come home only to have no free time to hit the movies or catch up on sitcoms....I'm a bit behind. So forgive me if I'm rambling about something that ya'll are familiar with. Has everyone seen "BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD"? Because if you haven't, you must --- not now, right now. The story is about Hushpuppy and her Daddy (Wink) - and it is the most poetic summation of life.

 

 "In one of the critical encounters in Hushpuppy's valiant evolution into a victorious personality, she must confront in her mind's eye the beasts of the southern wild — the prehistoric aurochs. She calls them the "strong animals" and observes that weak hearts make them hungry. So when they come, she faces them with her strong heart and befriends them. This bold and tender action proves her fearlessness in the face of whatever shows up in her life." --No matter what comes our way, if we approach it with a strong heart we can persevere.

Sometimes you just have to rebel yell....

 Hushpuppy: Everybody loses the thing that made them. It's even how it's supposed to be in nature. 

Hushpuppy ends the movie with the following quote......

"When it all goes quiet behind my eyes, I see everything that made me lying around in invisible pieces. When I look too hard, it goes away. And when it all goes quiet, I see they are right here. I see that I'm a little piece in a big, big universe. And that makes things right."

This movie brought a lot of peace to the sadness that's been lingering lately. We live we, we die, we rejoin the cycle and circle of existence. In the end, we are a little piece in a big, big universe....and that makes things right. 

Wink: My only purpose in life is to teach her how to make it.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Today I went to movies with my Dad and my friends Kaitlin + Becky to see SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN. It was ammmazing, I loved every bit of it. It was a bit slow in the beginning, but I enjoyed that about it. So far I've heard from a few people that said it wasn't good - but those are the people who like sappy, depressing independent films that have very little talking and very awesome soundtracks. The special effects in Snow White were amazing, I love Kristen Stewart (<3 bella), and the Huntsman, Chris Helmsworth, is just B.E.A-utiful.

Charlize Theron was a badass, totally scary queen for sure. 

From now on my type is no longer "pirates", instead....I'm looking for a dirty "huntsman".....

When an arrow was shot at this sacred animal, the audience gasped and Dad shouted "YEAH!!!". Kill em and Eat em. Ha. 

50/50

I just watched the movie "50/50" and was totally blown away. Laughing out loud and shedding tears, this movie really hit the nail on the head. Gratitude to my mother for being so selfless in her quest to take care of my dad...never making this 'about' her, and giving without asking for anything in return. And big ups to my Dad, who remains positive and strong throughout this shit ass situation that he's been handed. Watch this movie if you have some spare time. <3

Big Fish.

The other night my Dad and I watched Tim Burton's BIG FISH. I've seen it a few years back, but I'd forgotten what a fabulous film this is. It's a magical story, about a charming, adventurous, teller of tales...Edward Bloom. He reminds me of my Dad in so many ways, and the movie was even more special because I was able to enjoy it alongside him. I was crying like a baby by the time the credits came on, and mozied over to give my dad a big hug. He told me he loved me, bigger than the universe, and he agreed that THIS was a GOOD movie! If you have never seen this, or of its been awhile- check it out!

Water for Elephants

I read Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen several years ago. I purchased it in the airport, started at once as I was waiting at my gate- remained glued to the book, mesmerized by the magic on the pages, for the remainder of the flight And finally, finished the book on the taxi ride to my ultimate destination. I re-read the book later that week, because I felt like I didn't give it the time that it deserved, having just devoured it on the plane. So, when I heard that they were making this into a major motion picture, I was ecstatic! And better yet, my darling obsession ROBERT PATTINSON (edward, from TwiliGht) would be playing the lead roll of Jacob Jankowski!! I wasn't totally sold on Reese Witherspoon as Marlena, and even after seeing the movie I'm still not 100% on her playing the part- but it wasn't too much of a distraction in the end. Marlenas husband, August, played by German actor Christoph Waltz was SPOT ON. They could not have cast a better person than him. Perfection. All in all, a magical movie, doing justice to an amazing book. It's not filmed like the movies Big Fish or Moulin Rouge- but it has the same vibrance and majestic qualities that those films had. Please- enjoy Water for Elephants :)
